Brian came to us initially looking for some basic changes to his existing WordPress site. During the process he mentioned he had visions of creating a service that would allow students at fraternities and sororities to place dinner and lunch orders from their phones. We were instantly intrigued and knew this project was right up our alley. The build needed a back-end infrastructure to accommodate all the universities, fraternities and sororities, student user information, and dinner and lunch menus. Once that was in place, we had to design and build a front-end to display all the information both to the students and also administratively as well. Finally, a cross platform app (iOS and Android) that could handle the ordering would be the proverbial icing on the cake.

Since Brian had an existing site built in WordPress, it only made sense to continue developing on the platform we love. Once the initial edits were completed, we embarked on developing a custom WordPress plugin to handle all of the specific needs of menu and school/chapter/semester management. We let WordPress natively handle the user management, but added Twitter and Facebook login capability. After the plugin was dialed in and tested, it was time to do the heavy lifting and start the iOS and Android native apps. Fast forward a few months and no less than a couple hundred espressos, Gill Grilling had a beautiful app for students to order their late plates from. This project represented an exploration in UI, UX, design, development, and we couldn’t be more excited about the final product. Take that pen and paper.
